Las Cruces firefighters and Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue helped save a 24-year-old man who was injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash Tuesday evening.
Shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, firefighters were dispatched to an undeveloped area at the far west end of Thurmond Road where an ATV crashed in rugged terrain. Because of the terrain, fire crews asked for assistance from the Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue that has a utility task vehicle equipped with a Stokes litter.
The 24-year-old driver of the ATV had multiple injuries and had to be carefully extracted from the rugged terrain to a paved area. From there, he was transported to an awaiting medivac and airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso.
The driver was conscious, but in serious condition when he was transported to the hospital.
The cause of the ATV crash has yet to be determined.
