The Las Cruces Fire Department is accepting registrations Friday for soon-to-be 8th graders who are interested in participating in Fire Camp 2024 to be held June 17-28.
Fire Camp, now in its second year, is a free two-week summer camp that helps build confidence and develops leadership skills in youth ages 13-14 years or entering 8th grade. The camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays June 17-28, 2024.
Registration will take place 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Fire Station 1, 201 E. Picacho Ave. Parents or guardians are encouraged to arrive early as Fire Camp is accepting only 15 campers.
Fire Camp campers will be served breakfast and lunch each day. Water and snacks will also be available. Campers also receive a free T-shirt.
LCFD’s Fire Camp offers a wide range of activities including physical training, EMS training, fireground operations, a confidence course and leadership mentoring. Campers also engage in hands-on training with Las Cruces firefighters.
Parents or guardians who wish to register a youth, 13-14 years old, should bring proof of age for the camper and relevant information such as known allergies and medical conditions of their registrant. The Las Cruces Fire Department is only accepting 15 youth into Fire Camp 2024.
Campers will meet at 8:30 a.m. each day of Fire Camp at Fire Station 1. The camp will be held at Fire Station 1, at LCFD’s training and logistics facility and at the department’s Burn Building on Zia Boulevard. Safe transportation to and from each facility will be provided by the Las Cruces Fire Department.
