With a commitment to honesty, integrity, and transparency, Bill Hicks has made a significant impact during his first year in office, and he is determined to build upon the progress he has achieved.
Bill Hicks has been a proud resident of El Paso for 25 years, deeply rooted in the city’s history and dedicated to its future. His family’s legacy in the community dates back to the 1930s, instilling in him a strong desire to contribute to the well-being of the place he calls home.
“Upon taking office, I made it my mission to restore honesty, integrity, and transparency to the 34th Judicial District. In 2023, we’ve achieved remarkable goals: we’ve addressed the Walmart prosecution, slashed a massive case backlog, and worked tirelessly to fill staffing gaps. We’ve restored specialized units for domestic violence and DWI cases, and, most importantly, we’ve brought justice back to the courtroom. My commitment is unwavering, and I’ll continue to serve our community with dedication and transparency. I am proud of my record and I believe the voters in this district will elect me to a full term. We must continue to move justice forward in El Paso, said Hicks”.
During his first year in office, District Attorney Bill D. Hicks made substantial progress by reducing a once-massive case backlog from 14,000 to around 4,000 cases, with a goal of near elimination by Spring 2024. He restored specialized units for domestic violence and DWI cases, recognizing their importance. Hicks also brought transparency and accessibility to his office, actively engaging with the media and the public. Most notably, he spearheaded a return to the courtroom, successfully prosecuting significant cases, including the conviction and sentencing of the killer of El Paso Deputy Sheriff Peter J. Herrera.
Members of the press and supporters are also welcomed to join Hicks’ announcement party tonight at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown El Paso. The event will take place on the top floor from 5:30-8:00pm MT.
