(Las Cruces, NM) The Mesilla Valley Housing Authority (MVPHA) received a High Performing score from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
MVPHA’s final Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP) score for the fiscal year ended 6/30/2023 is 90%. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development uses 15 indicators, and the MVPHA scored 130 out of a possible 145 points, earning a High Performing score from the federal government. SEMAP enables HUD to better manage the Section 8 tenant-based program by identifying PHA capabilities and deficiencies related to the administration of the Section 8 program. As a result, HUD will be able to provide more effective program assistance to PHAs.
“We are glad to receive HUD’s recognition for five (5) years in a row” said MVPHA Chairman Felix Cordero. “The designation reflects the outstanding work of our staff to help Southern New Mexico residents live in affordable housing”, he said. “MVPHA was able to assist more than 1,200 low income households with the vouchers provided under the program including veterans and disabled residents in 2023” said MVPHA Executive Director Juan Olvera. “These housing assistant payments help our local low income families and individuals find and keep a safe, affordable place to live,” he said.
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is the federal government’s major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market.
