Transit District to launch new On-Call Bus Service

The South Central Regional Transit District (SCRTD) is now taking reservations for its new “On-Call” service, a pilot project operating within the following area: service is from the northern boundary of Doña Ana (i.e., Thorpe Road), to Elks Drive (eastern boundary), Main and Picacho, (southern boundary) and the Fairacres neighborhood (western boundary). The On-Call service is a convenient customized service connecting residents in these neighborhoods to medical appointments, work, school, or other travel needs with just one call. Passengers can simply call the SCRTD customer service line at 575-323-1620 to schedule a pick-up approximately one hour or more in advance. Most trips can be filled a week or more in advance. A Transit District dispatcher will direct them to a safe and nearby pick-up point. A small bus will arrive at the nearest safe location within the neighborhood or city for the pickup or return trip. The bus will take passengers to any job, school, or medical facility located within the city of Las Cruces, including connecting to either other SCRTD routes or RoadRunner bus network. Passengers can make daily or monthly appointments for regular pick-ups. The only restriction will be capacity on the bus or schedule. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. Fares are $2.00 ($1.00 for youth, elderly, disabled, or Medicare card holders). Transfer to other bus routes is free. Due to the pandemic service is currently free. For more information, a fact sheet is available via the SCRTD website at scrtd.org or by calling 575-323-1620.
