Tasing Incident Settlement

The family of a teenager who was tased at school will receive a large settlement from the school district and county. Rio Arriba County and Espanola Public Schools will pay the teen’s family almost one-point-three-million dollars for the incident. Officials say the deputy who tased the student claimed he “refused to comply with security to be searched,” but video footage showed the teen following orders. The deputy no longer works for the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s office, and is facing charges including child abuse.
