Sunport to Receive Millions from CARES Act

Albuquerque International Sunport has been suffering during the coronavirus pandemic, but Mayor Tim Keller says that is about to change. Mayor Keller announced yesterday that the Sunport is going to receive nearly 20-million dollars from the federal CARES Act to help offset their losses. According to reports, the lack of travel is expected to cost the airport 31-million dollars over the next two years, and officials say the funds can make sure people feel safe while traveling through the Sunport. Mayor Keller says the Sunport will not receive a lump sum but instead will pay the expenses upfront, then submit reimbursement documentation to the FAA for approval. The Albuquerque City Council will also have to approve how the money is spent.
