Individual Involved In Shootout In El Paso Has Died

The wanted fugitive who was reportedly involved in a shootout with authorities in El Paso on Tuesday did not survive. Mauricio Hernandez was reportedly pronounced dead at UMC-El Paso. Hernandez allegedly ambushed El Paso County sheriff’s deputies with an assault rifle in the Montana Vista desert, triggering a six-hour standoff. The sheriff’s office tells the El Paso Times negotiators were trying to talk to Hernandez when he shot at a police helicopter and SWAT officers and Border Patrol agents, who returned fire. No officer injuries were reported.
