Dona Ana Sheriff’s Department to close early Monday

The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department will close early Monday, Aug. 7 to allow staff to attend the funeral of a longtime deputy who passed away recently. Donald “D.J.” Lewis died at home Monday at the age of 70. He had been with the department since 1974. The administrative offices in Las Cruces, Anthony, and Chaparral will close at noon Monday and will reopen Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 8 a.m. Patrol functions in the field will not be affected.  Funeral services for Lewis are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mesilla Park Community Church. Burial will take place immediately following at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery will full police honors.
