Doña Ana County Fire Officials Advise Caution with Fireworks due to Drought

Fire officials in Doña Ana County advise everyone to take the necessary safety precautions with fireworks. Las Cruces Fire Chief Jason Smith says the current drought conditions are severe, which means even a sparkler could start a wildfire. Ballistic fireworks including rockets, copters, aerial spinners, stick-type rockets, and ground audible devices aren’t allowed anywhere in Las Cruces or the county. The public is invited to the Las Cruces Independence Day celebration, which includes a fireworks display on July 4th at Sisbarro Community Park on the NMSU campus.
