Brothers, Both High School Athletes, Die in Wreck

A pair of teen high school athletes who are also brothers are dead.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office says Pedro Sandoval and his brother Mateo died yesterday morning when their vehicle was hit by a pickup truck head-on. The wreck happened around 6-a.m. on New Mexico Highway 41 near Dinkle Road near Moriarty. The 16- and 14-year-old brothers respectively played varsity football at Moriarty High School. The truck driver Roman Armendarez was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Sheriff’s spokesperson Juan Rios says no charges have been filed as of yet in the open investigation.
