USA Wins 2-1 Over Rival Ghana in 2014 World Cup
Clint Dempsey scored one of fastest goals in World Cup history, and John Brooks scored the game winner on a low header in the 86th minute of a 2-1 U.S. victory over Ghana. Ghana is the team that had knocked USA out of the previous two World Cups. So i’m sure today’s victory comes with a great feeling of accomplishment for the Us National Team.
Dempsey’s goal came on a low shot just 34 seconds into the match. The US held the lead until Ghana’s Andre Ayew leveled in the 82nd minute. Ayew’s goal made it seem as if the U.S. would not finish with the 3 points, until Brooks’ goal off a corner from Graham Zusi. Brooks, who was cap-tied with his appearance, entered as a halftime substitute for the hobbled Matt Besler.
Besler was the second American to be injured, as Jozy Altidore exited in the 21st minute after suffering a left hamstring injury.
Dempsey’ goal made him the first U.S. player to score in three different World Cups and was the fastest ever scored by an American in the tournament. The US is now tied with Germany atop of Group G.
