The Truth about ice and dogs.
Once again, we say it: Don’t believe everything you see on the internet.
A blog post from a few years ago has resurfaced, giving some dog owners pause about giving their pets ice water during these hot days of summer. The internet post in question said that one dog lover fed her pooch ice water, causing the dog to go into distress. After rushing the pet to a veterinary clinic, she says a dog doctor told her that ice water causes dangerous bloating and “violent stomach spasms.”
But experts say that’s all hogwash. Dr. Tina Wismer, medical director at the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center, says the information is false. Dr. Wismer says, ”Dogs do not bloat from drinking ice water on hot days… They can be given as treats or put in the water bowl. Some behaviorists even recommend freezing toys or treats in ice for dogs to chew on.
Before you believe the craziness on Facebook and Twitter, do some research and see what’s best for your animal.
